Hunting Dogs Reviews

Experienced hunters recommend using the fox calls in the early hours of the day, late evening and during the night in the areas where foxes are feeding, some examples of good places would be around fields ( soybean, wheat fields, corn ), wood lots, wetlands and dead animal dumps. During the mid-day hours it is advisable to call loafing areas, timber, cattail swamps, ravines, high grass and isolated brush as well as abandoned farm buildings and timber stands.

During the cold months of the year ( November thorough March ), hunters recommend keeping predator food resources in sight, some examples of efficient pastures are: sheep, antelope, deer, cattle. During spring and summer, you should call around denning areas and livestock pastures. Good spots for calling are: irrigation ditches, woodlots, ravines and places within half a mile from water. It is advisable to hide vehicles out of sight/cover with a camouflaged “cozy “.

Remember to eliminate the sun reflection from the guns, zippers, scopes, glasses and other equipment. Calling should be done at intervals of half to one mile apart ( depending on the terrain ). Flat country means widely-spaced calling stands. When calling in rolling terrain, high winds, timber you should space stands closer together. Hunters must move both slowly and deliberately and when the fox drops out of view or isn’t looking at the hunter, move in order to get ready for shooting.

You mustn’t hurry, take your time and carefully look over the terrain and see if there are any changes. After you have made a shot and killed a fox it is advisable to keep calling for about two minutes. If you miss the fox, keep calling because in many cases the fox will stop thus giving you another chance for a deadly shot. You should mark the successful stands on a map so that you can find them again the next time you go hunting.
