Hunting Dogs Reviews

Hunting foxes with a rifle can be easy at times but it can also be an exciting and interesting challenge. The fox is a fairly elusive creature and in many cases hunters stumble on these creatures while looking for other games. If you won’t be shooting these animals for their pelts, just for eradication purposes, then any rifle you have will do just fine.

If you do intend to hunt foxes for their skin, a .22 rim fire is recommended or a small caliber centerfire. Some good fox calibers would be the .17, .22 hornet and last but not least the .223. If you are whistling foxes, we recommend using a .22 Magnum because it won’t cause too much pelt damage as the shots at a fox when whistling rarely exceed distances of 100m and let’s not forget that the ammunition comes at a more than affordable price. For an all-around fox hunting rifle used for harvesting pelts the .22 Magnum is the perfect choice.

If you are looking for a unique experience, you might consider using a shotgun to hunt these animals but you must be aware of the fact that pump-action and semi-automatic firearms have been banned. Most of the fox hunting done with a shotgun is usually using a method of finding the most suitable valley/area where foxes can be found, and walking slowly through the area and checking all the bushes as you pass by. In most cases, a fox will sprint out from a bush which will give you a few seconds for a deadly shot.

Choosing a shotgun for a fox hunt is a very difficult thing to do as you will need a light gun that can be shouldered very fast and that doesn’t kick that much. Choosing the most appropriate shotgun must depend upon the one that feels best and the one that you can shoot the best with. Regarding cartridges used for fox hunts, 12 gauge models are recommended.
